Cancellation, Refund & Deposit Policy
MacKinnonTech does not use a blanket “all sales are final” statement. This page explains, honestly, how refunds and cancellations are approached today — including where a specific rule has not yet been finalized as standard business policy.
Any nonrefundable item (like a special-order part) is disclosed to you before you pay for it — not buried afterward.
Refund amounts that were charged in error, and work with you in good faith on cancellations before chargeable work has started.
Diagnostic work already performed, labor already completed, and parts already purchased specifically for your device.
Before any nonrefundable expense (like a special-order part) is purchased on your behalf.
1. General Principle
MacKinnonTech does not use an absolute “all sales are final” or “no refunds under any circumstances” policy. At the same time, several categories of cost — described below — are generally nonrefundable once incurred, because they represent work already performed or money already spent on your behalf. Where something is nonrefundable, MacKinnonTech aims to tell you before you pay for it, not after.
Internal item: several specific rules below (exact refund percentages, late-fee amounts, and no-show charges) have not yet been set as standard business policy and are marked accordingly. Until finalized, these are agreed with you directly and confirmed in writing for your specific project or repair.
2. Diagnostic Charges
The $40 diagnostic fee covers diagnostic work performed and is not refundable once the diagnostic has been carried out — including when no fault is found, the repair is declined, or the device is beyond repair. See Diagnostic Authorization.
3. Completed and Unused Labor
Labor already performed is not refundable. If you cancel a repair or project after work has started but before it is finished, you are responsible for the portion of labor actually completed; any portion of prepaid labor not yet performed is handled per How to Request a Refund below.
4. Installed and Special-Order Parts
Parts already installed in your device are generally not refundable once installed. Special-order parts purchased specifically for your repair may not be refundable once ordered, depending on the supplier's own return policy — MacKinnonTech will tell you before ordering a special-order part if it is nonrefundable.
5. Software Licenses and Subscriptions
Software licenses and third-party subscriptions purchased on your behalf (for example, a Windows license or a plugin license) are generally nonrefundable once purchased, consistent with that software provider's own licensing terms.
6. Website Deposits and Milestones
Deposit amounts, payment schedules, and what happens to a deposit if a website project is cancelled have not yet been finalized as a standard MacKinnonTech policy. Completed development milestones (work already delivered and approved) are generally not refundable. See Deposits and Payments.
7. Cancelled Appointments and No-Shows
Standard rules for cancelled appointments and no-shows have not yet been finalized. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact MacKinnonTech as soon as you can.
8. Duplicate Payments and Chargebacks
If you are charged twice in error, or believe you were charged incorrectly, contact MacKinnonTech directly first so it can be corrected quickly. This website does not currently process payments directly — see Privacy Policy for what this site does and does not handle.
9. How to Request a Refund
Email jonnathan.mackinnon@mackinnontech.com describing the service, the amount, and the reason for the request. MacKinnonTech will respond directly and work with you in good faith, consistent with the categories described above.
MacKinnonTech may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date above. Questions about this policy, or requests related to your personal information, can be sent to jonnathan.mackinnon@mackinnontech.com.
