Warranty & Service Guarantee Policy
MacKinnonTech does not use a single blanket “no warranty” statement. Coverage is different for different kinds of work, described below by service type. Exact coverage periods for several service types are still being finalized — where that's the case, it's stated plainly rather than guessed.
Depends on the service — repair labor, parts, and website defects are each handled differently, described below.
Unrelated problems, new damage after the device leaves MacKinnonTech's care, and issues caused by customer-supplied parts or third-party changes.
From the date service is completed and the device or site is returned to you or launched.
Contact MacKinnonTech directly, describe the issue, and bring the device back (or, for a site, describe the defect) for reinspection.
1. How Warranty Coverage Works
Warranty coverage is a promise that if something specifically covered goes wrong, MacKinnonTech will look at it again and make it right within the terms described below. It is not a promise that nothing will ever go wrong, and it does not cover unrelated problems, new damage, or issues caused after the device or site leaves MacKinnonTech's care.
MacKinnonTech does not disclaim consumer protections that cannot legally be disclaimed, and does not select a specific warranty duration without business approval — several of the periods below are marked as not yet finalized rather than invented.
2. Diagnostic Services
The diagnostic service itself is not something that can “fail” in a way a warranty would cover — it is billed for the diagnostic work performed, as described in the PC Repair Terms, regardless of outcome.
3. Repair Labor
If the specific problem MacKinnonTech was hired to fix recurs because of how the repair labor was performed, MacKinnonTech will reinspect the device and correct it at no additional labor charge for that specific issue.
This does not cover a new, unrelated problem, or damage caused after the device leaves MacKinnonTech's care.
Internal item: the exact labor warranty period has not yet been approved by MacKinnonTech. Until it is, the coverage above applies for a reasonable period following service, confirmed with you at pickup.
4. Replacement Parts
A part MacKinnonTech sources and installs on your behalf may carry its own manufacturer warranty, which is separate from and in addition to any labor warranty on the installation. Manufacturer warranty claims are handled per that manufacturer's own process; MacKinnonTech will assist where reasonably possible.
5. Customer-Supplied Parts
MacKinnonTech does not warrant the part itself when you supply it — only the installation labor, and only as separately confirmed at the time of service. See Customer-Supplied Parts in the PC Repair Terms.
6. Software Services
For services like Windows installation or performance optimization, MacKinnonTech warrants that the specific work performed was completed as described. This does not cover problems introduced by software you install afterward, updates released after service, or issues unrelated to the work performed.
7. Malware Removal
MacKinnonTech warrants that the known threats identified at the time of service were addressed using reasonable diagnostic and removal procedures. As explained in the PC Repair Terms, this is not a guarantee against reinfection or new threats discovered later.
8. Data Recovery
Data recovery carries no warranty of successful outcome. See Data Recovery in the PC Repair Terms.
9. Cleaning Services
MacKinnonTech warrants that the cleaning service described was performed. Cleaning does not carry a performance warranty for unrelated hardware issues that predate the cleaning.
10. Custom PC Builds
Build labor is warranted against assembly defects — for example, a connection that was not properly seated during the build. Individual components carry their own manufacturer warranties, handled per that manufacturer's process.
Internal item: the exact build-labor warranty period has not yet been approved by MacKinnonTech and is confirmed with you at handoff until a standard period is finalized.
11. Website Development
For a website project, MacKinnonTech corrects defects that are within the originally agreed scope and reported within a reasonable period after launch, at no additional charge. This does not extend to new feature requests, content changes, third-party service outages, or issues caused by changes made outside MacKinnonTech after launch. See Maintenance in the Website Development Terms for how this differs from a paid ongoing support plan.
12. Requesting Warranty Service
To request warranty service, contact MacKinnonTech directly and describe the issue. For PC hardware, this typically requires bringing the device back for reinspection. MacKinnonTech will confirm whether the issue is covered before performing further work, and will contact you before any additional chargeable work is performed.
MacKinnonTech may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date above. Questions about this policy, or requests related to your personal information, can be sent to jonnathan.mackinnon@mackinnontech.com.
