Pacific Plaques & Awards
Pacific Plaques & Awards is a client-style demonstration — a fictional custom-engraving storefront built to show how a structured custom-order business can be represented online. It is not a live, paid client engagement.
Custom engraving and award businesses take orders with very specific details — rank, dates, unit, inscription text — that a generic contact form handles poorly, leading to back-and-forth emails just to clarify what was actually ordered.
Goals
- Replace a generic contact form with structured, order-specific fields
- Present the product range (plaques, shadow boxes, awards) clearly by occasion
- Make it easy for a customer to specify exactly what they need in one submission
- Keep the ordering experience simple even though the product options are detailed
Strategy
Instead of a single catch-all inquiry form, the order flow was broken into fields that map directly to what an engraver actually needs — recipient details, occasion, and inscription text — reducing the clarification back-and-forth a generic form creates.
Design Approach
A warm, presentation-focused product gallery organized by occasion (retirement, promotion, unit milestones), paired with an order form that feels considered rather than bureaucratic.
Built with Next.js and React using custom CSS. The order form uses structured, purpose-specific fields (recipient, rank/title, dates, inscription) instead of a single open-ended message box, and the product gallery is organized to make browsing by occasion straightforward.
